CACTUS CORNERS MINIATURE GOLF OUTING

Hello Dancers……… On Sunday, October 5th, Cactus Corners had their annual Miniature Golf Fun Day. We had a great turnout and it was a gorgeous day in Castro Valley…… Everyone had a good time and NO ONE got hurt……lol There were quite a few first timers joining us this year and hopefully they will be back next year along with the people that were on vacation this year. I would name them but I’ve misplaced my paperwork and I don’t want to leave anybody out. I will say that I’ve never seen Millie laugh so much and so hard as she did that day. Talk about having a good time…you go Millie. The only complaint that Charley and I heard was that it went by too fast. We started at 1:20 and were eating a little before 3pm. Speaking of eating, after golf, we went to the infamous Harry’s Hofbrau in San Leandro for an early dinner….very early dinner. Everyone loves this Hofbrau and we will continue to go there as long as the people want it. The team that came in FIRST PLACE this year was, Steve W., Debbie Kachalkin, Norma Borgeson, and Charley Hartje…….

Hope you’ll join us next year……..

September 5, 2008: THE NIGHT THE GRANGE SHOOK

by Sallie

If you attended “The Cow Dance,” you know what I mean. We were near the epicenter of a 4.0 earthquake southeast of Alamo at 9 pm on September 5th. However, those of us on the dance floor doing the “Hardwood Stomp” didn’t feel a thing. Our DJ that night, Gary Clayton, followed with the “Hawaiian Hustle.” Remember the earthquake part?

We had a great time with everyone in the spirit of black and white, cow and cowhide prints, from Penny’s short cow skirt to Donna’s one black shoe and one white shoe. Those two also brought fabulous goodies: tasty salsa and chips from Donna and fudgey brownies from Penny, our official baker. Fortunately because we were dancing nonstop, the air conditioning was better than ever due to some repair work by Carl. A lot of energy came out of the Hustlers Workshop, carrying over to our dance. See the picture of Jay. His lively dance, “Knock Down the House” was very popular as was Gary and Charyle’s “She’s Not Crying.” I was inspired to learn both of those dances.

A unique event of the evening was that TWELVE couples danced the “Drifter.” The Shadow and Mexican Wind had plenty out on the floor, too. Also, we had two guys playing cribbage! Maybe you could guess who they were: Phil and Ed. We had a bunch from the old days: Barb and Ed, Bonnie and Phil, Joni and Bad Bob, Larry and Diane, and many regulars.

Speaking of Bad Bob, he managed to attract a harem. See the photo. Well, just when you think you know what to expect at a Cactus Corners Dance, something new happens!
